Orthodontics
Orthodontics is a division of cosmetic dentistry that specializes in correcting crooked teeth and preventing facial defects. Tools such as braces are used to correct these defects. Those who do not receive treatment can experience chewing difficulties, broken teeth, TMJ disorders, decay, or gum disease.
The following are irregularities that may need orthodontic care:
Type 1: occurs when the 1st lower molars are in front of the 1st upper molars, and the upper front teeth are generally 2 to 3 mm over the lower incisors.
Type 2: This type gives the look of bucked teeth and a protruding upper jaw. The 1st lower molar is further back than the normal position and the upper incisors may be leaning forward.
Type 3: This type has a protruding jaw look in which the lower jaw looks as though it is sticking out further than the upper jaw. This is caused because the lower 1st molars are further out than they should be, making the upper anterior teeth grow behind them.
